THIS IS A SOLO
Eva,
Bruce and I
The
solo Eva, Bruce and I
came from the desire to find a procedure of working with a peer from
the field that would not require a presential relatioship and that
would allow me to devellop the solo alone in the studio space.
The procedure upon which
we based our relation reads as follows:
Based on the same motto
given to Ivo of 'Placing, Displacing, Misplacing', Eva would send me
by email a WordchoreoGraphy understood as written words displayed in
a sheet of paper, upon which I would have two working sessions to
work with that material and then write back to Eva a report from
which she would write the next page of WordchoreoGraphy.
The procedure would
repeat seven times and by the end we were expecting to have two
pieces of work, one written and the other movement based.
However, during this
process of working alone in the studio space an unforssen phenomenon
took place, a channeling process occured while rehearsing the
material generated so far. I was channeled by an historical entity,
Bruce Nauman, specifically his solo work 'Walking in an Exaggerated
Manner around the Perimeter of a Square' from 1967-68.
Having no material proof
of the occurance of such event, I can propose here that this
channeling can work as a methaphor for the inevitable coexistance
with references while working in solo work. In relation to the
question 'How can I speak through the other and how can the other
speak through what I am proposing?', in this solo I rephrased it as
'How can I speak through Bruce Naumen and how can Bruce Naumen speak
through my proposition of invocation of his work at the end of 2011?'
As the initial gesture of
the work was dealing with time frames by trying to propose
different or more precisely, non linear relations to given time frames. This proposition
intended to propose the ideia of parallel times frames that can at
given moments intertwined for rather misterious and non causal
reasons.
